Marcel-François RICHARD is “generally recognized as the greatest Acadian nationalist of the 19th century,” according to his biographer, Phyllis E. LeBlanc.

“Richard’s actions went beyond symbols and nationalist speeches. He participated actively in the nationalist debates that went on in connection with the conventions, and he worked to promote Acadian newspapers, agricultural colonization, education, and above all the appointment of Acadians as bishops in the Maritime provinces.”
