As part of the funding agreement between the Dictionary of Canadian Biography and the Canadian Museum of History, we invite readers to take part in a short survey.

I’ll take the survey now.

Remind me later.

Welcome

Welcome to the online version of the Dictionary of Canadian Biography/Dictionnaire biographique du Canada (DCB/DBC), a major research and publishing project of the University of Toronto and the Université Laval that was launched in 1959. Its purpose was and is to provide a reference work of Canadian biography to “compete with or even surpass works of a similar character produced elsewhere.” (Find out more about the origin and purpose of the DCB/DBC by clicking here.) We invite you to visit us frequently to view the new biographies that we post online each week, as well as minor corrections. And we suggest that you explore the thematic groups of biographies we have prepared for you.

Many of you are already in touch by e-mail. You can also reach us through social media (www.facebook.com/dictionaryofcanadianbiography and twitter.com/dcb_dbc). Please send us your comments – we will read them with interest. As well, you will find information on various developments and activities by checking out DCB/DBC News in the sidebar at left.

Thousands of individuals await you, each of whom, in his or her own way, has contributed to the history of Canada.
