Black People

This excerpt from the biography of Richard PIERPOINT suggests the threat posed by the invading American army to Upper Canada’s small Black community:

“Between 1806 and the War of 1812 Pierpoint probably resided in Grantham Township, earning his living as a labourer. War once again provided him with an opportunity for change and he ‘proposed to raise a Corps of Men of Colour on the Niagara Frontier.’”
