Demobilization and the Veterans

This quotation from the biography of Gerald Joseph WHITTY illustrates some of the challenges faced by veterans and their organizations:

“Pensions for veterans and their dependants had been approved by the government in 1917 with payments subject to annual adjustments. When the latter were not forthcoming, the [Great War Veterans’ Association of Newfoundland] lobbied hard for redress and made significant gains.”
